Staff and students from the Elam School of Fine Arts are gearing up for Elam Open Days 2007, an annual, weekend-long art extravaganza showcasing the selected works of more than 120 final year undergraduates and postgraduates.
Featuring paintings, sculptures, photographs, installations, sound works, design and multimedia interactive projects, the exhibition celebrates the talent of some of New Zealand's most promising and established artists.
In keeping with previous years, Elam Open Days 2007 will be attended by some of this country's most prominent art dealers, collectors and curators. More than just an opportunity to highlight creative talent, Elam Open Days 2007 offers students the chance to meet, network with and even sell their work to members of New Zealand's arts community.
"Elam Open Days 2007 is an exceptional opportunity for the public to see the calibre of talent coming out of our School and to understand why Elam is renowned as the leading fine arts school in New Zealand," says Associate Professor Derrick Cherrie, Head of Elam, the National Institute of Creative Arts and Industries (NICAI). "Our Master of Fine Arts, Postgraduate Diploma and Bachelor of Fine Arts programmes provide the platform for academic and artistic development at all levels and the results, quite clearly, are outstanding."
Elam Open Days 2007 kicks off with a preview evening on Friday 9 November from 6-9pm at the Main Fine Arts Building, Level 2 (20 Whitaker Place, Auckland City). The event is open to media and invited guests. Light refreshments will be served. Media please RSVP by 5pm Thursday 8 November.
